A bit more about us

Why we do what we do >

Comets Corner was founded in 2011 by Emma Samm, whose lifelong passion for horses and pets has fuelled a desire to ‘give something back’ to the animal world that we get so much from…

Emma’s vision to create a platform that brings awareness and education to pet owners on issues such as pet nutrition, over breeding, pet theft, the work of rescue centres and much more, whilst delivering hand picked products that have your pets health and well being at heart, is still what drives us today. All products have had to pass the ‘Comets Test’ before we will stock them in our store, this way you can be certain when you buy from us, that we have done the hard work so you don’t have to.

We realise that like you, your animals are individuals with their own amazing characters and personalities. This is also true of their physical needs, and we understand that the same diet will not suit them all, sometimes a bit of ‘trial and error’ is necessary to find a suitable diet for your best friend.

Many pet foods found in the supermarkets and pet shops use cereals as a ‘filler’ to bulk out the food. Our overwhelming belief is that cereals are difficult for your dogs and cats to digest, and they are neither healthy nor nutritious to their carnivorous systems. Cats in particular, are known as ‘obligate carnivores’ and NEED meat in their diet to merely survive. Dogs are often known as omnivores because of their ability to survive on table scraps and anything else they can find! However the more correct term for dogs is ‘scavenging carnivores’, which means that they CAN survive on low or no meat content, much in the same way we can survive on pot noodles. However this kind of diet is not good for a prolonged period and can lead to all manner of health problems. Once you have switched over to a grain free, higher protein diet you will very soon notice many positive changes to your pets health and well being. Their coat will be smoother, softer and shinier, their eyes will be brighter and they will be generally thriving!

We understand you are busy and time is of the essence, therefore we have developed a monthly service of plans to include your pets food and treats, toys and supplements, and poo bags or litter. These will then be delivered straight to your door every month with no hassle!

The Comets Test

What makes us so special >

You can be assured that our full range has first had to pass the ‘Comets Test’. If we are not happy to give it to our own animals for whatever reason, then we are not happy to give it to yours either.

Is it healthy, nutritious and tasty?

Is it healthy, nutritious and tasty?

All food and treats have their ingredients checked for quality and to ensure that no ‘nasties’ are present. They are then given to our resident taste testers . who ensure it passes their stringent criteria…. If they don’t want it - we don’t supply it….!

Does it work?

Does it work?

Everything must ‘do what it says on the tin’.

Would we be happy to give this to our own animals?

If the answer is no, then it does not get stocked, no matter how popular it might be, how big the brand name is, or even how many people are asking us ..to supply it.

Is it fun, inviting and safe?

Is it fun, inviting and safe?

All toys and other accessories must be of good quality and well made.

CHARITIES & FUNDRAISING

We work closely with various animal charities and not for profit organisations to enable them to increase their reach and awareness of what they do. We promote their work, we send donations and we work hard to help increase their funds by putting on competitions and other fundraising events for them…

We work hard to raise issues that affect the rescue world and help bring awareness to you of the things that you can do that can help decrease the burden for these charities…

A Little Bit More About Our Team

Your pets health and well being are the teams primary concern….

Emma’s passion and love for animals started at an early age as her home was never without dogs and cats as she grew up, horses came along a little later, around 10 or 11 years old. It wasn’t long before Emma knew one way or another a lifetime career with animals would be her future…

Emma does everything, but no-one is an island so thankfully she has an amazing team to back her up!

Emma

Founder, Owner & General Dog’s Body

Jackie is Emma’s sister and started with horses first, so this is probably all her fault! Aside from caring for her dog Bonnie and being the unpaid groom to her daughters 2 horses (see the theme here!) she also looks after the admin for Comets Corner…

Jackie’s biggest and most difficult task is making sure Emma is keeping on track with all of her tasks!

Jackie

Unpaid Groom

Sharon is our newest team member, although she has been Pepper’s best friend for many years! Sharon is an experienced dog and horse owner and lives at home with her dog Rooney and also has Ted who is now retired and living the life of Riley.

Sharon also oversees admin tasks for Comets Corner, whenever Pepper gives her the chance to at least….

Sharon

Pepper’s Cushion

Pepper is our stunning, charismatic and leggy Jack Russell who absolutely hates water, the rain, the cold, fireworks, her coat, the heat, being on her own, being with too many people… (you get the idea) – luckily she does love to run and jump but she mostly loves to sleep!

Pepper oversees our regular feature, ‘Pepper’s Picks’ her favourite choice of dog products…

Pepper

Executive Snoozer

Oscar is our handsome, sensitive and bold Irish Sports Horse who loves to cuddle, but mostly loves to run and jump! He lost his Mum in a fall a few years ago and so now we are the proud caretakers of this big brave boy.

Oscar will be overseeing our regular feature, ‘Oscar’s Opinion’ which will be his choice of favourite horse products…

Oscar

Chief Galloper

Our gorgeous boy Comet was taken from us in his prime in 2006, he died from Grass Sickness at 10 years old, a deadly disease of the gut for which there is still no cure and no hope of recovery for those with the acute illness..

Comet’s name lives on through Comets Corner and so he is always with us….
